Emirates launches mobile boarding pass

June 8, 2011 – Nowadays mobile phones can accomplish practically everything. As long as you have a web-enabled mobile phone, one can accomplish almost anything from banking to paying off bills, watching television, scanning barcodes and now checking-in to your flight with a paperless boarding pass.

EMIRATES_MOBILE_646647112.jpgFollowing the examples of other airlines, Emirates now offers customers the option of receiving a mobile boarding pass on their internet-enabled mobile device – resulting in a more efficient travel experience.

Other airlines that have gone paperless include: British Airways’ mobile applications for the iPhone and Blackberry; and United Airlines with a two-dimensional barcode similar to the technology of Emirates new mobile boarding pass service.

From their online check-in facility in Dubai, Emirates’ passengers can log on to www.emirates.com, and can choose to receive a web-link to their mobile boarding pass by email or SMS, that displays a bar-coded boarding pass on their internet-enabled phone.

The mobile boarding pass can be scanned and read directly at all check-in counters, airport security check points, Dubai immigration, Emirates First Class and Business Class lounges, and boarding gates.

Following the launch in Dubai, over 30 other mobile boarding pass compliant airports, have been identified for implementation across the Emirates network.

“The launch of the Emirates’ mobile boarding pass not only supports paperless travel and the reduction of paper waste, but also meets the demands of a new era of travellers, who seek a more sophisticated and efficient means of managing their business and leisure travel,” said Mohammed H Mattar – Divisional Senior Vice President Airport Services, Emirates.

It is estimated that in the first year of implementation, bar-coded boarding passes will save over 3.6 million kilograms of paper and cardboard across the Emirates Group.
