BOC Kenya appoints new Managing Director

NAIROBI, Kenya, Sep 15 – East Africa\’s leading industrial gases maker, BOC Kenya has appointed Maria Msiska as the new Managing Director. She replaces John Kariuki who resigned in March this year.

The company\’s chairman Joseph Gilbert Kibe said Ms Msiska had extensive experience in the industrial gases sector and a wealth of knowledge that was vital to the future expansion of their business in East Africa.

Ms Msiska was recently head of finance for South African-based African Oxygen Limited\’s (Afrox) sub-Saharan operations and previously was Managing Director of Afrox Zambia and Afrox Malawi. She also served on the boards of Standard Bank and Old Mutual in Malawi.

On her part, the new MD has expressed her determination to contribute towards BOC Kenya\’s quest to become the market leader in Kenya and the region.

"BOC Kenya is a great company, with a proud history and I am honoured to be appointed Managing Director and to lead such an able team," said Ms Msiska.

"BOC Kenya\’s underlying business remains strong and with the recent restructuring and robust credit control measures, I consider we are well-placed to strengthen our product service offering to customers and reverse the company\’s recent setbacks. There is, however, a lot we have to achieve to ensure BOC Kenya realises its plans to grow the business in the face of very tough economic conditions," she added.

"The Board and I have every confidence in the company, management and employees\’ abilities to meet the high performance targets that will guarantee BOC Kenya\’s continued position as the market leader in Kenya and the rest of East Africa."
