Kigali Serena renovation enters final phase

NAIROBI, Kenya, Jul 15 –The renovation of Kigali Serena Hotel at the cost of Sh1.8 billion is set to enter its second and final phase later this month, in a move that is expected to further upgrade Rwanda’s premier business hotel and consequently boost the country’s fast-growing economy.

The  second phase of the upgrade will involve alterations, extensions and refurbishment of various facilities including the old bedroom block, public areas, lifts, business center, meeting rooms, existing shops, offices and the reception area at a cost of Sh340 million.

“This investment is critical for Kigali Serena Hotel as the premier attraction for business travellers and tourists in Rwanda; the new facilities will ensure they experience unparalleled world class comfort and convenience,” said the Serena Hotels’ Managing Director, Mahmud Janmohamed.

“Our aim is to play a pivotal role in boosting the tourism sector which is at the heart of Rwanda’s overall economic development strategy,” he added.

The development will follow the first phase of the project which included the addition of an ultra modern new wing comprising a total of 44 guest rooms and a two-storey state-of-the art Maisha Spa facility complete with a contemporary swimming pool.

The hotel will remain open during the renovation period and measures will be put in place to ensure minimal interruptions to guests.

The construction of the luxury Kiningi Serena Lodge, a separate development by the hotel, is also scheduled to commence during the third quarter of the year at a cost of about Sh650 million.

The lodge will be located in the Northern Province close to the Volcano National Park which is the natural habitat for mountain gorillas.
