Nakumatt opens four new outlets

NAIROBI, Kenya, Mar 8 – Nakumatt Holdings has embarked on a marathon branch opening drive as part of its national expansion programme.

In just under a fortnight, Nakumatt Holdings will in keeping with its promise to extend its market reach be formally opening the doors to four of its new branches in Diani, Nanyuki, Kakamega and Eldoret respectively.

The successive opening of the four branches by Nakumatt Holdings will effectively raise the chain’s branch tally to 25 outlets in the East Africa region and further confirms the fact that its national expansion programme is still firmly on course.

Speaking over the weekend during the opening of Nakumatt Diani at the south coast, Nakumatt Holdings Managing Director Atul Shah said the firm had invested more than  Sh450 million in developing the three ultramodern supermarkets and one hypermarket.

As part of Nakumatt’s development plans, Shah further confirmed the scheduled opening of Nakumatt Nanyuki and Nakumatt Kakamega set for on Wednesday and Thursday this week respectively. Nakumatt Eldoret, the first hypermarket store in Eldoret is scheduled to formally open its doors early next week.

“Nakumatt Holdings national and indeed regional expansion drive remains a key priority on our operating strategy and the opening of the four branches in quick succession confirms our commitment to extend our footprint nationally,” Mr Shah said.

“Even as we await the conclusion of a financing arrangement with our potential private equity, partners, we have reached a decision due to popular demand to open the four branches as per the earlier promise to raise our network to 25 outlets before the close of the first quarter 2010.”

Strategically located at the new CentrePoint Mall at the south coast, the newly opened Nakumatt Diani Supermarket covers a shop floor space of more than 15,000square feet and will stock a range of more than 30,000 products in the fully air-conditioned store.

In Nanyuki, Nakumatt Nanyuki Supermarket located at the ultra modern Nanyuki Mall premises covers a shop floor space of more than 30,000square feet and will stock a range of more than 40,000 products alongside an in-store bakery and fresh produce section.

In Kakamega, Nakumatt Kakamega Supermarket the anchor tenant at the new Holden Mall covers a shop floor space of more than 40,000square feet and will stock a range of more than 45,000 products alongside an in store bakery.

At the new Eldo Centre in Eldoret, Nakumatt Eldoret hypermarket will be coming in to complement the 24hour Nakumatt Household supermarket with a shop floor covering more than 75,000 square feet.

Besides the four new branches, Nakumatt Holdings expects to further enhance its Nairobi region presence with the opening of two new hypermarkets on Kiambu Road and Lang’ata Road by August this year.
