EABL creates new marketing unit

NAIROBI, September 5 – East African Breweries has created a new unit, EABL Venture, to specifically deal with marketing its spirits portfolio within East Africa.

A statement from EABL on Friday said former Marketing Director Patricia Ithau had been appointed to the new unit as Managing Director.

EABL Venture, the statement said, will handle the alcohol manufacturer’s spirits portfolio which includes Johnnie Walker, Smirnoff, Richot, and Baileys among others.

Ithau will be fully responsible for all EABL business in Tanzanian and other regions and will lead a sales and marketing team that will have its primary focus on spirits. As well as growing the spirits business, she will also oversee EABL’s relationship with Tanzania Breweries Limited.

Debra Mallowah, who had been posted to EABL’s partner Diageo Africa as Marketing Manager replaced Ithau as Group Marketing Director.

The appointment followed a management re-organisation at EABL, which had created two key focus areas – Group supplies and Group Demand.

Managers under ‘Supplies’ would handle operational concerns including manufacturing, and malting among others. This would consolidate operations of Kenya Breweries Limited and UDV Kenya.

Kenya Demand and Uganda Demand managers will mainly concentrate on sales and marketing of EABL products

Other appointments include Josephat Ngile, General Manager UDV Kenya who moved to East African Maltings as the General Manager following the retirement of Phillip Kalii while Peter Ndegwa had been made the Group Finance Director. Ndegwa was, until his appointment, the Sales Director.
